We are the largest independent vehicle distributor in the Caribbean region.
Grupo Ambar consists of companies primarily related to the automotive market, operating in the Caribbean region.
Santo Domingo Motors, founded in 1920 by Amadeo Barletta, is the oldest company in Grupo Ambar. It began as one of the first Chevrolet distributors outside the United States. It was followed by operations in Cuba with Ambar Motors, established in 1939 and confiscated in 1959; Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands with Motorambar starting in 1965; the British and Dutch Antilles with Motorambar West Indies from 1968; and Venezuela with Autoambar since 2002.
Our activities focus on the import, distribution, and commercialization of vehicles, both through authorized independent dealerships and our own dealerships. In these countries, we proudly represent some of the most important brands in the sector, generating over 1,700 direct jobs.
Over the years, Grupo Ambar has identified customer needs and ventured into various automotive-related businesses in the Dominican Republic. These include Motor Plan, which represents the vehicle rental brands National, Alamo, and Enterprise; Motor Crédito, a savings and loan bank focused on financing new and pre-owned vehicles; and PreviSeguros, an insurance brokerage specializing in auto insurance.
Since 2012, the Group has also ventured into the shopping center business, with the opening of Ágora Mall. Santiago Center, a project that will operate under the mixed-use concept, is under construction and will open its doors in Santiago in 2024.
Each of our companies operates autonomously with a common vision: to keep people moving forward.
We integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into business, taking on the commitment to promoting shared value to society and the fulfillment of the goals established in the 2030 Agenda.
Grupo Ambar’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy is focused on three (3) pillars: our people, social surrounding, and environment.
We foster an internal environment that promotes the integral development of our talent, and that reflects our commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunities for all.
We permanently monitor and improve the lives of our collaborators by creating a safe workplace. We continually offer education programs on health, safety and a work environment that promote the prevention of diseases and occupational accidents.
We understand that providing value to our social surrounding is a key aspect to promote shared prosperity and thereby contribute to improving the social well-being of the countries where we operate.
We are committed to minimizing our impact on the environment for future generations, through the responsible use of resources, the use of renewable energy and the final disposal of the materials we use. Much of this is channeled through our Ambiente Ambar program.

When we decided to import our first car, in September 1920, we did it with the purpose of opening new paths. In our first year of operation, we only sold three vehicles and 100 years later, we have a solid track record that proudly represents the largest independent vehicle distributor in the Caribbean.
In our long trajectory, we have experienced many adversities and turbulent times such as the massive destruction caused by Hurricane San Zenón in the Dominican Republic in 1930, the pressures exerted by the Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo and Fidel Castro’s communist revolution in Cuba, and more recently, the Covid-19 pandemic. We have been able to confront and overcome these challenges and they have enabled us to grow stronger.

I belong to the third generation of the Barletta family. All of us who work in the company are deeply indebted to my predecessor’s ideas, achievements, and efforts. Today, our companies look to the future, and we expect to move forward together, without limits. We will continue to grow as individuals and as a group in order to contribute to the development of the countries where we operate.
We will continue striving to provide the best service with the tenacity that characterizes us, the dedication of our employees and the commitment to our clients.
